What is circuit board assembly?

Printed circuit board assembly is the process of connecting the electronic components with the wirings of printed circuit boards. Before printed circuits became the common component used in electronics, Point to point construction was used. PCBs can be single sided (one copper layer),double sided (two copper layers) or multi-layer (outer and inner layers). FR-4 glass epoxy is the primary insulating substrate.

What is PCB assembly process?

The assembly of printed circuit boards is a multiple step process that includes surface mount technology (SMT) and through hole technology.

What is PCBA manufacturing?

A circuit board prior to assembly of electronic components is known as PCB.
Once electronic components are soldered, the board is called Printed Circuit Assembly (PCA) or Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA).

Over Head Projector sheet (OHP sheets) , wax paper, Laser Printer, Electric Iron, Steel wool, Two plastic trays.Copper board/ PCB glass epoxy, FR4, FR10, etc. Black permanent marker. Etching solution (Ferric chloride) & Drill machine.

What is a Single Sided PCB?

Single sided PCBs are a type of circuit boards having components mounted on its one side, whereas the conducting wires are connected at the other side. Only the desired copper traces or pathways are left after etching. The conducting layers are typically made of thin copper foil. Basically, the board is coated with a solder mask that is in green color. Blue and red are some other colors available.

Multiple Layer PCBs

Circuit boards that are composed of various layers are known as multi-layer PCBs. These layers can be either thin etched boards or trace layers. In both cases, they are bonded with lamination. For lamination, the internal layers of the PCB are subjected to under extreme temperature.

Pcb materials comparison

There are many types of dielectrics that can be used to provide different insulating values as per requirements of the circuit. Unwanted copper is removed from the substrate after etching leaving only the desired copper traces or pathways.

FR-2 (phenolic cotton paper),
FR-3 (cotton paper and epoxy),
FR-4 (woven glass and epoxy),
FR-5 (woven glass and epoxy),
FR-6 (matte glass and polyester),
G-10 (woven glass and epoxy),
CEM-1 (cotton paper and epoxy),
CEM-2 (cotton paper and epoxy),
CEM-3 (non-woven glass and epoxy),
CEM-4 (woven glass and epoxy),
CEM-5 (woven glass and polyester).

What is PCA?

PCB populated with electronic components is a printed circuit assembly (PCA).

What are Pads in PCB?

You will solder components to the pads on the PCB.It is Location that components connect to.Pads will connect to traces.Traces are essentially the wiring of the PCB.

What is a silkscreen on a PCB?

Silkscreen, also known as legend, refers to the text-based, human-readable information that printed on the surface of a printed circuit board.

What is “surface mount”?
A way of attaching electronic components to a printed circuit board. Cheaper pcbs with no holes to drill.

Surface Mount vs Through Hole
Through-hole mounting is the process by which component leads are placed into drilled holes on a bare PCB.Once inserted through the designated hole in the PCB, the leads are soldered to pads which are located on the bottom of the board
